Biography

Chisato Taniguchi

Born in Japan, Chisato Taniguchi began playing music at the age of 2 and piano the following year. After graduating from the Toho-Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo with Yumiko Meguri, the Japanese cultural foundation “Meiji Yasuda” awarded her a scholarship in 2021 to continue her studies for a master’s degree in piano at the National Superior Conservatory of Paris for Music and Dance (CNSMDP), where she was admitted to Florent Boffard’s class. She is also taking lessons with Sébastien Vichard and Hae-Sun Kang (chamber music), and has taken part in masterclasses with Jean-Claude Pennetier, Thomas Hell, Till Fellner and Jean-Yves Thibaudet.

In 2022, she won Second Prize at the 15th Orléans International Piano Competition and the ‘Résidence Henri Dutilleux – Geneviève Joy’ prize. She also won First Prize at the 14th “Kyōgaku” Contemporary Music Performance Competition in Japan in 2020.

For some years now, she has been performing in concert, sharing her passion for the contemporary repertoire, in particular works by Japanese composer Atsuhiko Gondai, with works from the classical repertoire. She has been invited to major festivals such as the International Piano Festival of La Roque d’Anthéron (France), the International Festival of Modern and Contemporary Music Traiettorie in Parma (Italy), and La Folle Journée Tokyo, where she has given a recital and a concert with the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra in 2023. In March and April 2023, she stayed at Henri Dutilleux’s house as artist-in-residence following the Orléans International Piano Competition, giving several recitals and classes in the region. Selected as a scholarship student for the year 2023 by the Japanese music foundation Rohm, she continues to study chamber music in master’s degree at the CNSMDP.
